What is Data Science?

Data science is an interdisciplinary field that combines techniques and tools from statistics, mathematics, computer science and business domains to extract knowledge and value from data. The goal of data science is to discover patterns, trends and relationships in data that enable informed decisions and solve complex problems in different areas, such as medicine, biotechnology, marketing, industry, among others.

It deals with processing data in various structured or unstructured forms which is usually the continuation of the fields of statistical data analysis.

Data science involves a series of steps from data collection and cleaning, through exploratory analysis, modelling and evaluation, to communication and presentation of results. A variety of data analysis techniques and tools are used, such as data mining, machine learning, data visualisation, and others.
