In the context of artificial intelligence, self-awareness is seen as an important step towards the creation of more advanced and autonomous artificial intelligence systems, which can adapt and make decisions independently. Self-awareness may also be an important consideration in the ethics of artificial intelligence, as systems that are self-aware may be better able to avoid improper or harmful behaviour.
